Short Description:
With the continual increment in population and severe droughts, we are facing receding water levels in urban areas. Where The water demands have only gone up, Rainwater harvesting is a more important aspect of the toolset for long-term water management.
Idea Details:
The prototype model is designed based on IoT-based, microcontroller approach to solve the issue in this particular field. With the installation of a reservoir and a few sensors, this proposal will ensure better water management for the urban areas also as for rural areas, whether in the presence or absence of a power supply. It has a sliding gate mechanism with the help of rack and pinion (rotary to linear motion). The reservoir will be sealed all time unless rain occurs. When it sense rain, rain sensor will give command to open the gate, the gate will slide open to allow the rain water to be stored and will close again when the reservoir is filled (water reaching a certain height). This will also solve many pre-existing problems like overfilling of the reservoirs as the monitoring is done at all times. As samples of our Approach-Water of all qualities, clear, opaque, and dirty can be monitored and it is possible to distinguish successfully to transfer the stored water into two different water storage- usable and non-usable, where the non-usable can be purified for reuse.
